I’ve just pushed version 0.5.1 of my WordPress plugin iTALM into the WordPress SVN, it should arrive soon enough.  If you have any problems please let me know.

The system now works around the shortag [itunes] with the following attributes:

  • url – a mandatory attribute, this a clean itms store url, fetched via link maker or your itunes client
  • title – the string in this field is passed into the output link as the alt tag on the image/title of the link
  • content – if you don’t use this field, the itms link image from the settings page is displayed, if you do use this attribute the string is output instead.

Saying all that you don’t need to type this stuff anyway, because that’s the beauty of the button being in both editors. Select text (it’ll be output as the content attribute) or don’t, click the button, search for what you want (or click manual url) and be quickly prompted through the process.  If you enter nothing in the box? It’ll still enter someting like <Artist Name>-<Album name> out for you.

I think this is a nice step forward for the plugin, your feedback is appreciated, the general consensus seems to be to drop feedback over at the article page but i’m now closing that, so please leave your feedback on this post.

  1. I upgraded to WP 2.8.5 and iTALM 0.5.1. I now get this message on every page in my admin area:

WARNING: Your version of iTALM requires upgrading please visit the upgrade page.

I have deactivated and reactivated it and get the same warning.

  2. Hi,

I’m trying to install this plugin, and keep getting the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /nfs/c05/h04/mnt/77467/domains/brickroll.com/html/wp-content/plugins/itunes-affiliate-link-maker/itms.php on line 14

Any suggestions on what’s going on, and how to fix it?

  3. Hi Christian, one of the pre-reqs of iTALM is PHP5 and i see you’re still using PHP4. If you can, upgrade as PHP4 has reached an EoL and is slowly becoming less and less supported. This will fix the problems too.

  4. Hey,

I’m trying to get the iTALM plugin to work with my site but am finding that I run into some kind of Server Error whenever attempting a redirect.

Attempting to access the redirect link at http://thesite/itunes-refer/Lady_GaGa-Bad_Romance causes a “The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.” error page, and “[Fri Jan 01 11:47:44 2010] [error] malformed header from script. Bad header=404: php5” in the error log.

Has anyone experienced this one or would you know why it is occurring?

Any heads up would be awesome as it would be great to get this one working!

    Cheers,

    Jamie J

  5. Hi Jamie

It seems there may be some issues caused after changing the redirect URL. I’m looking to them at the mo so i’ll keep you posted.

  6. Very nice plugin! I’m new to WP, but I’ve done my share of hand-coded HTML… that helped me through the setup, because otherwise I’d have had trouble figuring out how to build the affiliate link prefix.

One question: What is the PartnerID? I don’t see that in the affiliate link that LinkShare/iTunes builds, so I don’t know why I’m adding it to the end of the link.

And one suggestion: Add height/width to the “Default Link Image” option. I’d like to use a smaller image, but the height/width seem to be hardcoded.

Despite those minor glitches, I think this is going to be a great addition to my Karaoke blog. I’ll add a note on the WP site that it works with WP 2.9. And if I actually make any money (unlikely), I’ll think of you first.

  7. Thanks for the feedback Robert, i’ll put a fix out for the image width/height thing, forgot i did that.

If you’re with Linkshare USA the partnerId i think is 30

  8. Hi ya, loving this plugin and finally got it all working correctly! Wondering though… can we change the size of the image displayed, and is it possible to get the link to open in a new window? (if you could tell me the page to find these settings I can edit them myself)

    Thanks and great plug in!!
